About the Center for Area Studies

The Center for Area Studies was established in 1988, with the goal of creating the department’s own archives. The Center was designated to provide the necessary resources for the researchers and academic personnel who wish to conduct research in area studies. Currently, the Center has a vast newspaper collection of about ten different regions. In addition to the newspaper archives, “Foreign Broadcast Information Service” (FBIS) reports are made available. FBIS Reports, including Middle East, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) regions, cover the English translations of newspaper, journal, and radio-television broadcasts. In addition to this, the Center houses a small library. Furthermore, the existing computer facilities in the Center enable the graduate students to have access to the Internet.
